Stability and Workforce Development Programs

In addition to providing basic and crisis needs assistance, New Hope equips individuals and families to move toward long-term success.  New Hope’s Stability and Workforce Development Programs meet people at their point of need and provide opportunities for training and resources that will help guests become more stable. Programs include:

Free Tax Prep Assistance - February 1st – April 12th: Wednesdays from 5:30-8:30 pm at Mechanicsburg Center.

ScholarshipApplications are now being accepted!! This program is available to assist qualified individuals with post-secondary education and job training. (Click here to find the Guidelines and Applications which are due April 30th. Guidelines and  applications are also available at a local New Hope Center.)

GED (General Educational Development) – This 12-16 week evening program provides the opportunity to gain the knowledge needed to obtain a GED. Held every Spring and Fall Semester at Hanover and Mechanicsburg Centers. (Interested participants can sign up through a local New Hope Center. Contact will be made via phone or postcard once program dates are set.)

Job Junction - Meet one-on-one with a volunteer to help with resume building, cover letters, interview skills and job searches. Our Job Boards also provide information on more job opportunities in the area. (Must have an appointment for Job Junction, available at all New Hope Centers)

Job Fair – Hosted at New Hope Centers, gives guests an opportunity to meet face to face with local hiring businesses.   A great way to make a good first impression during a job search. (Check with your local center for the next job fair dates in your area)

  • Dover Center – Contact the center for the next job fair date.
  • Hanover Center - The 2nd Thursday of the month from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
  • Mechanicsburg Center – Contact the center for the next job fair date.

Dollars & Sense - This basic money management class provides participates with the tools to increase income and decrease spending.  Both day and evening classes available at all New Hope Centers. (Check with your local center for upcoming class dates)

Soft Skills Training - Looking to expand your interpersonal skills and learn what it takes to be a great employee in the current job market?  This is the class for you. Topics covered include: communication, teamwork, conflict resolution and much more. (Check with your local center for upcoming class dates. This class is also a pre-requisite for all New Hope job training programs including Forklift Training, Nurse Aide, etc.)

Forklift Training­ - Held in York or Mechanicsburg – one day training. New Hope assists with forklift training to help individuals expand their job skills in order to find work in the forklift operator field. (Those interested must attend Soft Skills Training and fill out an Education and Workforce Training  Application, available at local New Hope Centers)

Nurse Aide Program - Currently held in Mechanicsburg during the Spring and Fall semesters. This involves 5 week day time classes. (2-weeks pre-clinical course at New Hope Center & 3-weeks clinical course at local nursing facility) Provides the opportunity for students to find stability through a great career that has room for education and growth. (Interested participants can sign up through a local New Hope Center. Contact will be made via phone or postcard once program dates are set.)

*NEW* CDL Class A Drivers License Class -  Interested participants can sign up through a local New Hope Center. In partnership with S&H Express, individuals interested in obtaining a Class A CDL can submit a scholarship application to receive a $500 scholarship towards enrollment at Shelley Truck Driving School in York, PA.

Computer Class - Currently held in Mechanicsburg. The Microsoft Digital Literacy Program is taught in a 6 week format, & meets one day a week until participants can confidently pass the Digital Literacy Exam (Interested participants can sign up through a local New Hope Center. Contact will be made via phone or postcard once program dates are set.)

Cooking Classes - Held on a monthly basis at all New Hope Centers to provide nutrition education and demonstrate healthy, creative ways to cook with food pantry items. (Check with your local center for upcoming class dates)
